Meet Jean and Brig Vos

A Legacy of Design & Resilience

The Foundation of Precision

The story of Jean and Brigitte began in 1997 on Winchester Road, when they founded Winchester Design & Decor. The business was built on a simple but unwavering principle: perfection in the details.

With a background in the military, Jean brought discipline and technical precision to every installation, quickly making this level of accuracy the company’s hallmark. Even today, if a measurement isn’t flawless, it isn’t considered a Jean installation. He remains the man on the ladder, personally ensuring that every design vision is anchored in structural perfection.

The Art of the Transformation

While Jean mastered the technical side of the business, Brigitte developed a deep passion for the soul of a room. Coming from a successful career in industrial marketing, she eventually followed her true calling, the textures, patterns, and transformative power of fabric.

Brigitte did far more than manage the business. By working closely with master artisans, she learned the intricate craft of curtain making and upholstery from the ground up. This hands-on knowledge allowed the business to expand into custom upholstered furniture, earning a loyal following among decorators and private clients who value lasting quality over “fast furniture.”

Empowering a New Future

In 2008, life presented an unexpected challenge when Brigitte was diagnosed with Petit Mal epilepsy. Rather than slowing down completely, Jean and Brigitte chose a path that reflected their values. They parceled out their factory to their staff, empowering them with the equipment and opportunity to manufacture products for Winchester Design & Decor as well as for their own clients. What could have been a setback instead became an opportunity for growth within their community.

Resilience as a Design Philosophy

The years that followed tested them further. Brigitte faced a brain tumor in 2011, and Jean suffered a heart attack in 2012. These life experiences reinforced a powerful truth: a home is far more than décor, it is a sanctuary for healing and comfort.

Rather than stopping them, these challenges shaped their philosophy. They came to believe that redesigning a home is about creating spaces that support well-being, honour personal history, and adapt to the changing seasons of life.

From Gauteng to the Midlands: A New Chapter

In 2023, Jean and Brigitte began a new chapter in the Natal Midlands. While Brigitte still travels to Gauteng to care for their long-standing clients, they are now gradually becoming part of the Midlands community.

Their approach to design remains thoughtful and personal. They believe in layering a home over time rather than rushing toward a catalog-perfect space. Their goal is to build lasting relationships with clients, helping them repurpose treasured pieces and thoughtfully update their homes, one room at a time, to reflect the life they are living today.
